Science bulletin board

Gross Science Labs
I have a bulletin board in my classroom which I have turned into an investigative science center. All materials for the lab are at the station. Students conduct the investigation alone and record their results. I try to change my science board monthly.

1. Sweet Treats Candy Lab
Using Halloween candy, students made predictions and observations on wether their candy would sink or float. Students recorded data and reported their results after everyone finished.

2. Buggy Friends Lab
Students researched insects and recorded facts and details. The final project was an informative writing with a crayon resist watercolor picture.
3. Marble Race
This has been such a fun investigation! Each student constructs a track and preforms trial runs. I placed magnets on the back of foam tubes which are cut in half. This allows the students the to freely move the track pieces around. The goal is to use all the track pieces and have the longest recorded time for your marble to travel down the track.

Our class mascot: Miss Moo At the beginning of the year I have her sitting around the classroom. She demonstrates good classroom behaviors. After a few weeks, I send her home with the star student. She stays at the student's home for one night. I only send her home Monday-Thursdays. I take her home Friday to give her a bath in the washer! Her take home pack consists of: 1. Miss Moo and her sleeping sack (a drawstring bag) 2. Her homework folder- inside is a laminated note with parent directions and a personalized photo book of Miss Moo) 3. A pencil 4. A spiral journal 5. A writing response sheet At home the student needs to complete the following tasks: 1. Read the story to Miss Moo 2. Write in the class journal 3. Finish the response sheet (asks the students to write and draw about Miss Moo's visit) The student brings Miss Moo back the next day. At morning meeting time we share what the student wrote about Miss Moo's visit. I ha...

Word Work Ideas

Long Vowel/ Silent e Word Sort Activity Cards Print your own game flashcards- click on this TpT link!   I'm Feeding the Monster:   Word Work Activity- I used a baby puffs container to make the monster's body. With stickers, paper and marker I added the face details. The game cards have CVC and CCVC words. The object of the game is to feed the monster only words which use short vowel sounds. My students love making the munching sound when the monster eats a word. When they attempt to feed the monster a word with a long vowel they pretend to make the monster spit it out. Students seem to really enjoy this activity. Thank you Pinterest for this find!  My Current Word Work Situation: I have been searching blogs to find new word work ideas. I have been using the same materials and activities for the last two years. This is fine because Daily 5 is a new concept at the school I am currently at.  My current word work activities include:...
